UK & EU Series: Philanthropy

Date
27 January 2021
Time
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
UKEurope

Join us for a discussion on the latest trends in Philanthropy from tax, legal & wealth management perspectives. COVID 19 has prompted many HNW families to think about charitable giving and how they can support local and international communities in need. Our panel features speakers from London, Jersey & Zurich to give an international perspective on the latest trends.

The discussion will be hosted on Zoom and include a live discussion with a distinguished panel, followed by small group discussions using Breakout Rooms to enhance the networking and discussion. This will allow our members to interact directly with each other and the panelists. A full guest list will be circulated to those that attend.

We are delighted to be joined by panelists below:

Jaime McLemore - Partner, Wealth Planning & Tax, Withersworldwide, London. Jaime advises on US and international tax and estate planning, particularly for families and trusts with US/UK cross-border concerns. Jaime devotes a large part of her practice to advising individuals and families in relation to their philanthropic goals and charitable structuring for both individuals and non-profit organisations. She has extensive experience with the establishment and operation of US charitable vehicles, including those that form part of dual qualified charitable structures, which attract tax-efficient contributions from US persons outside the US. She also advises non-US charities in relation to US investments and fundraising.

Jaime frequently works with individuals seeking to renounce US citizenship or abandon long-term permanent residence in the US. She provides US tax compliance advice to individuals and assists them through the relevant IRS disclosure procedures, when necessary. In addition, she advises both individuals and entities on their FATCA obligations.

James Campbell - Partner, Ogier, Jersey. James has extensive experience advising professional trustees, family offices, intermediaries and high-net worth families (both internationally and locally) on all aspects of Jersey trusts, foundations and estate planning together with all related company and commercial law issues. He frequently advises on the establishment, ongoing operation and restructuring of both private and commercial trusts. James has a particular focus on the drafting of trust instruments, supplemental trust deeds and the establishment and use of private trust companies.

James advises on the establishment of structures in Jersey for charity and wider philanthropic purposes. James also advises on regulatory matters involving trust company business and has an interest and experience in Sharia compliant fiduciary structures.

James Morton - Private Banker, Lombard Odier, Zurich. James moved to Lombard Odier, Zurich, in July 2018, having spent nearly seven years at Barclays Private Bank. In his time at Barclays, James looked after HNW and UHNW individuals both resident domiciled and resident non-domiciled as well as charities. At Lombard Odier, James is responsible for private clients and trusts resident both onshore in the UK and internationally offshore.

Edward Garrett - Senior Private Client Manager, Charities Aid Foundation , London. Ed joined CAF in April 2020 bringing a blend of experience from private client, commercial and social enterprise sectors - he started his career with private client law firms in London & Paris before joining a financial risk insurance brokerage in the city and then joining the founding team of a start-up social impact consultancy focused on the financing of the UK education sector.

He is a passionate advocate of the benefits for private individuals and organisations of deploying resources for positive social and environmental change and welcomes the challenge of helping clients to navigate complex new products, services and markets. His particular area of focus and interest is increasing social equality through access to quality education and the potential of blended finance and digital technologies to maximise the positive social and environmental impact of capital deployment.
