UK & EU Series: Channel Islands Relocation

Date
11 September 2020
Time
11:30 am - 12:30 pm
UKEurope

The Channel Islands is a popular relocation destination for UK based HNW clients. Interest in relocating to the Islands has increased following COVID and the strength of the local response to the crisis. In this session, we will discuss the latest trends from the government agencies that are charged with attracting wealthy relocators, Locate Jersey & Locate Guernsey.

We will also hear from leading practitioners from Ogier, Carey Olsen, Intertrust & Hawksford. Full biographies of our speakers will be available below shortly.

The discussion will be hosted on Zoom, facilitating interaction between delegates and the panel using Zoom's Breakroom feature. This will enhance the interaction and allow delegates to put their questions directly to our local experts. A full guest list will be circulated to those that attend.

We are delighted to be joined by:

Kevin Lemasney - Director for High Value Residency at Locate Jersey. The Government of Jersey team responsible for attracting and relocating Inward Investment Businesses and High Value Residents to the Island. Acting as a single point of contact for all interested and established HNW families, he is responsible for assisting High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) through the process of moving to Jersey. He works with them on the relocation of their families and businesses, providing comprehensive, independent, confidential and free advice throughout the process, something he is well placed to do having himself relocated with his family in 2001.

In addition to living and working in his native Ireland, the UK, France, Switzerland and Jersey, he has carried out consultancy work in Greece, Malta, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Australia and New Zealand. Married to Cora, with two grown up children, he is a champion of sport, education, culture and community projects in Jersey. He is also a keen traveller, skier, fluent French speaker and a former chairman of the Jersey Rugby Football Club Academy.

Jo Stoddart - Director, Locate Guernsey. Jo was brought up in the UK and subsequently spent 17 years living and working in Paris, initially in international banking before focussing on international event management. She spent several years with IMG McCormack, organising professional sports events in France and Belgium, and later at the OECD arranging conferences and seminars in Paris and Central Europe. Following a short spell in London, the family relocated to Jersey where Jo started working in commercial property agency. Due in part to her own personal experiences she developed a particular interest in working alongside those who were considering relocation, either for business or for personal reasons.

Jo and her family moved to Guernsey 15 years ago and in 2010 she founded a successful pan-island relocation consultancy working with a broad range of HNWIs and companies relocating their family, business or staff to Jersey and Guernsey. As a business owner, Jo became actively involved in the global mobility industry, serving on the board of the British Association of Relocation Professionals and subsequently being elected as Chair. Seeing the need for a government agency to promote the benefits of Guernsey and to facilitate introductions to politicians, civil servants and the business community, Jo encouraged the establishment of Locate Guernsey in 2015 and took the helm of the organisation herself in November 2018. Jo is a passionate ambassador for Guernsey and her extensive personal and professional experience of relocation is of tremendous benefit to Locate Guernsey's clients.

Jason Morgan - Partner and Head of Property Group, Carey Olsen, Guernsey. Jason advises on a wide range of residential and commercial property matters involving Guernsey, Alderney and Sark. He acts for private individuals, developers, investors and businesses on buying, developing, financing, selling and leasing property in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. He also acts for the leading domestic lending institutions, as well as a number of private banks, in the preparation and registration of real property security.

Jason is also a member of Carey Olsen's relocation team, which supports high net worth individuals and families who are moving to Guernsey. Prior to becoming a partner, Jason was a litigator for over 15 years and has extensive experience of conducting commercial litigation in the Guernsey and Alderney courts. Jason was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1989 and joined Carey Olsen in 1992. He was admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 1993.

Michael Powell - Client Director, Private Client Services Hawksford, Jersey. Michael is a well-respected, skilled personal adviser and trustee with over 30 years' experience of working with families, young entrepreneurs and the inherited wealthy. He has built lasting relationships with clients, their advisers and intermediaries during his 30 year career.

Alison Parry, Head of Private Wealth - Intertrust, Guernsey.
