An Interview with Irpreet Kohli

What do you do for Freeths?

I am a specialist Family Lawyer dealing with all the usual area of family law, such as divorce, separation, financial settlement, children arrangements and pre and post nuptial agreements. I also deal with a couple of more niche areas such as interventions by third parties who have an interest in financial settlements and applications for financial provisions after an overseas divorce.

I recently joined the London office at Freeths as a Director to grow the Family Wealth Team along with Mike Bell, who moved over from Taylor Vinters and deals with all areas of Private Client. .

What do you love most about your role?

I love the buzz of helping clients get through what is often one of the most emotionally stressful and turbulent time in their lives and seeing them come through the other side - usually more positive and able to focus on their futures. It's a journey where you get to know a lot about clients personally and I'm still in touch with many of my old clients who become friends once everything is done.

Why did you join PCD?

I joined PCD over 3 years ago when looking for a high level and quality networking group for Private Client Advisors. Little did I realise that it would very quickly become my primary place for networking.

At which PCD event will members see you next?

I am always at the London PCD dinners and have occasionally ventured out to some of the others. Come and find me and say hello at the next event!

My top tip for networking is...

Be yourself! Networking, and particularly family law, is about having a genuine connection with people. It is much more productive spending time getting to know a few people and then developing those relationships then forcing conversations with people you won't remember in a week.

On a weekend, I am most likely found...

Taxi-ing my children around to various clubs, watching box sets (I can never make it through a whole film without falling asleep) and more recently attempting a usually dessert themed jigsaw puzzle. I foolishly thought that puzzling would be relaxing before discovering the perfectionist and control freak in me couldn't walk away until it was done!
