An Interview with Patrick McCarrick

About Patrick:

Patrick McCarrick is the newly appointed Managing Director at Knox House Trust (KHT), which he joined in 2016. Originally heading up their Risk & Compliance division, Patrick who is based in the Isle of Man, now leads the firm as it plans to develop and grow the client base and expand into international jurisdictions including the Far East and Europe.

Tell our members how you are feeling about your recent appointment?

Having started my KHT journey consulting for them nearly 9 years ago when they first obtained their Trust and Company licence, I feel I have now come full circle. It is an honour to take up the MD role. The fact that I am not new to the business helps greatly. I'm already involved in the strategic direction of the business as an existing board member, making me fully aware of the opportunities and challenges that exist. Plus, I have a great team of experienced professionals who support the vision for the business and go beyond what is expected of them on a daily basis.

What do you aim to achieve in your new role?

Service development and jurisdictional expansion are key goals, whilst maintaining the exceptional standards of personal service our clients have come to expect. I am excited to continue exploring wider opportunities for the business, working collaboratively with trusted partners and the wider Knox group of companies (which KHT are part of) to help differentiate KHT from other CSPs.

Why did you join PCD?

Given KHT's desire to expand into new jurisdictions, our senior team recognised the opportunities it offered. Personally, I love to travel. Just as well following my 36 hour trip to China earlier this year to attend the PCD Shanghai launch event and reconnect with contacts out there. To date, we have gained many insights and developed invaluable contacts from our PCD membership.

Top tips for networking?

During my time at KPMG I was advised that 'telling isn't selling' - so I always try to listen and get to know people. What makes them tick - their goals and aspirations? People tend to buy from people they like, so it is important to be friendly and polite. I've found that the best relationships are ones built on trust - so avoid the hard sell and leave people knowing something memorable about you - that will open up the door for future conversations!

Where will PCD members find you next?

The Far East remains a key area of interest for KHT, and I attended the Greater China Forum earlier this month and plan to return to London and China (either Hong Kong or Shanghai) for 2020 events.
